Cladding Bracing | Structural Timber

Another factor that you need to consider when wanting to clad your buildings, homes, or offices is what you’re going to secure your cladding to. We therefore need to think about cladding batten and creating a framework to support the cladding and provide a structure that will last for the future. We have a wide variety of batten here at Ruby available in different lengths, sizes, and materials all to serve a different purpose and provide you with several different options. All our batten is pressure treated using a green tanalith pressure treatment to ensure a long life and rot resistance therefore keeping the wood in the best possible condition for many years. So, if we look at the different types of battens individually, they all hold slightly different purposes, but can all be used to provide a supporting framework and structure for cladding boards to be secured onto. The C24/C16 timber is available in sizes of 4”x2”, 3”x2” and 2”x2” and lengths of 2.4m, 3m and 3.6m. It is commonly used for studwork purposes and exterior structures such as cavity walls to create airflow and drainage in behind the structure. CLS is very similar to C24 in the respect that it frames walls and creates studwork but also very popular for cladding batten. CLS however is extremely well planed and edged with curved corners. PSE bracing is another great option that is used to strengthen the structure and consolidate the base to ensure the cladding is held in place. PSE is also known as Planed Square Edge with crisp edges and planed sides. It’s a relatively strong timber that has been pressure treated to ensure longer life.
