Attached vs Freestanding Pergolas
When buying a wooden pergola, noting what style you're looking for is vital. Here, we've put together a comparison of the styles we offer, ensuring that you can find the one that's right for you.
When looking at different pergola styles, its important to note the space you're looking to put it in. If you want an affordable way to extend your outdoor living space next to your home, an attached, lean-to pergola may be for you. However, if your garden's shape or size can allow for a flexible, standalone structure, or perhaps if you want a pergola that can be positioned anywhere, a freestanding pergola could be the better option for you. Below, explore our different pergola styles and their benefits!

What Base Do You Need for a Pergola?
The pergola base is the very beginning of a structurally sound pergola. A pergola should always be on a solid surface, and your pergola should be secured with fixings. Concrete is the most secure option for a pergola base, however other bases, such as having your pergola on grass, porcelain and wooden decking, can also be done. Having a solid pergola base not only makes assembly easier, but also ensures the stability of your pergola.
At Ruby, we offer a variety of fixing options, ensuring that your pergola is secured to whichever base you choose. For more information on installing a pergola to different bases, check out our page below.

Pergola FAQ's
Do you make bespoke pergolas?
We absolutely do! Just like our gates and fencing, we can make completely bespoke pergolas. If you'd like a quote for your measurements, please contact our Sales team on 01409 231 763 or sales@ruby-group.co.uk.
Does the pergola arrive fully assembled?
The Gazebo does not arrive fully assembled, however we have created in-depth manuals to guide you on assembly - so whether you're a keen DIY enthusiast or a professional fitter, you can construct our pergolas yourself. You can find these manuals on the specification table on each listing.
Are fixings included?
All the fixings needed for installation are included in the delivery of your pergola parts! However, we do not provide the ground fixings for the posts.
What maintenance is required?
We highly recommend treating your pergola at least every 6 months with Osmo Oil, to protect your gazebo against the elements and against decay. We also recommend checking your pergola every so often and removing any built-up dirt and grime.
Can I paint my pergola?
You can! You can only use water-based paint on our pergolas, however, and you will need to ensure the pergola is as dry as possible before painting. We do recommend applying UV protection prior to painting also.
How long will it take to get my order?
The lead time for our pergola's is currently 3-7 working days.
