Wood Cladding Treatment & Oils

To help with the preservation and lasting of timber products, gates and panels, Ruby UK have Osmo Stains available which are applied to timber products to reduce wood swelling, shrinkage and resists algae, mildew or fungal by regulating the moisture levels within the wood. We recommend using Osmo stains with vertical timber structures where rainwater can run off and not areas like decking where water remains sat for long periods of time. Over time, exterior woods start to grey due to being exposed to the harsh weathers, however Osmo stains are designed and developed to keep the colour of the wood by using pigments that will match the natural colour of the wood. Therefore, we have stains available recommended for clear, cedar and larch as well as end sealing wax to stop any moisture entering the wood through cut or exposed ends.

In terms of applying the stains, make sure the surfaces are dry and clean and stir the oil before applying. If possible, it is recommended to let the timber weather which helps the wood to absorb the oil contents more efficiently. The weathering process normally lasts 12 weeks however for larch, it is considerably shorter with a time of 2-3 weeks. Doing this step will increase the protection considerably. You will need to apply two thin coats of the Osmo stain before leaving to dry for 12 hours between each coat. Applying these stains every 12 weeks to your timber will keep your wood lasting for many years to come.
