A very modern and contemporary style of cladding that we offer is Shadow Gap cladding available in a Canadian western red cedar species. The boards are fitted together to allow dimensional movement and it portrays a shadow gap in between each board creating the smooth, sleek finish. The Canadian western red cedar shadow gap boards are dark and dense with a real high-quality feel about them. This type of cedar is extremely durable allowing you to shop with the future in mind and create structures and designs that will remain in great condition for years to come. It will have minimal defects such as knots and tight grains because of the slow growing process of Canadian western red cedar and therefore improving the overall quality of each board. Here at Ruby, we love Shadow Gap cladding because of the finish product it provides, the easy instalment process and lightweight properties that it possesses; not to mention it’s made from one of the best looking and durable wood species out there.
We want your shadow gap boards to stay in tip top condition for years to come and therefore, want to highlight the need to preserve and protect your boards using Osmo UV Cedar Protection Oil. This natural oil-based preservative keeps the colour of the wood by adding pigments which optimally match the timbers natural colours. It’s water and dirt resistant and provides a breathable finish that does not crack, peel or blister over time. You will want to apply these individually to the boards before being installed. Its recommended that you apply Osmo oil every 12 weeks for optimal protection. Once coming around to fitting your cedar shadow gap, you will want to start at the bottom of your design ensuring that the first couple of boards are completely level as this gives a good foundation and makes it easier when coming to install your higher boards. To help with the process, we recommend using 50mm nails which will help secure the boards together effectively and will not rust easily.
