Timber Floor Joists
As part of our decking range, we have available joists in sizes of 6”x2” and 4”x2”. These joists are to be used as the framework and structure for your decking areas providing stability and strength. Whilst the 6”x2” timber is mainly used for the outer framework and joists running along the middle, the 4”x2” provides extra strength and durability by acting as noggins and being installed perpendicular to the joists running along the middle. The 4”x2” timber comes in lengths of 1.8m, 2.4m, 3m and 3.6m but may need to be cut down to fit in between the joists. The 6”x2” timber comes in lengths of 3.6m, perfect for those larger decking areas.
Our decking joists have all been pressure treated using a green tanalith pressure treatment to ensure that they are long lasting and rot resistant. Adding to this, it will ensure that they remain sturdy and strong throughout their lifetime. If you are creating a raised decking frame, you may wish to use 4”x4” posts in each of the corners, cementing them into the ground using postcrete and then attaching your frame onto these which will create a higher platform. When installing your joists, remember that they will run in the opposite direction to the decking and so you will need to decide which way you wish to have your decking running prior to creating your frame.
Hopefully this has provided you with the information you need regarding our decking joists and helps you with your own decking project. If you have any more queries or questions, please ring our sales team on 01409231763 and they will be happy to help.
