Guide to Maintaining & Caring for Slatted Panels
Slatted panels are a stylish and functional addition to any garden or outdoor space, offering both privacy and a modern aesthetic. Proper maintenance will ensure your panels look their best and remain sturdy over time. Here's how to maintain your slatted panels effectively.
1. Regular Cleaning to Keep the Panels Looking Fresh
Slatted panels can accumulate dirt, dust, pollen, and other outdoor debris. Regular cleaning helps maintain their appearance and prevents damage from dirt buildup.
How to Clean: Use a soft brush or cloth to remove dust and debris. For more stubborn dirt, a gentle wash with water and a mild detergent is ideal.
Power Washing: If using a power washer, ensure it is set to low pressure to avoid damaging the wood. A pressure washer with a fan tip will provide a gentle spray suitable for wood surfaces.
3. Reapplying Sealants and Treatments
Wooden slatted panels are exposed to the elements, which can lead to warping, cracking, or fading. To prevent this, we reccomend applying Osmo Oil before you install or modify the panels. Reapply every 6-12 months minimum to maintain the colour of your panels, and prevent against any weather-related damage.
- Choosing the Right Treatment: We highly reccomend Osmo Oil, having tried and tested this ourselves. However, you can use any water-based UV protection to protect your panels. Applying treatment helps protect against sun damage and moisture penetration.
- Seasonal Consideration: Apply treatments in dry weather to allow proper absorption and drying.

Over time, panels may become loose or show signs of damage due to exposure to wind, rain, or heavy use.
- Fixing Loose Panels: If any panels become loose, tighten screws or nails that hold the slats in place. Check for wobbly panels and secure them with additional fasteners if necessary.
- Addressing Cracks or Splits: If the wood splits or cracks, use wood filler to patch the damage. Sand the area smooth after drying, and apply a protective finish.
