What To Consider when Buying A Timber Gate

What To Consider when Buying A Timber Gate

What To Consider when Buying A Timber Gate

If you would like to install a timber gate for either your field, garden or driveway, you will need to consider a few things before making your purchase to ensure it’s suitable for your unique requirements and that it’s going to provide you with the type of look you desire. You will also need to make decisions about your price range and be sure of what size you are going to need. Here are some useful points for you to follow to help you come to the right decision…

Work out your sizing

First things first, there’s no point in beginning your search, whether it be online or in store, until you know the exact dimensions you require. And you will need to be completely sure of your measurements as you don’t want to end up ordering the wrong size. Make sure you remember to allow for the width of the wooden gate itself!

Consider the design

We stock a range of different designs to provide our consumers with as much choice as possible. If you’re planning to give your garden a bit on an overhaul by installing a picket fence around the perimeter, the chances are you will want to have a picket gate to match. Equally, if you want to inject a luxury feel to your driveway to give it ultimate curb appeal, you’ll need to invest in a quality timber gate. You should also consider whether to go for a pair of wooden gates rather than a single gate entrance. Make sure you shop around and have a look at what is available to you before making an order.

What if you can’t find one the right size?

Timber gates generally come in industry standard sizes but some suppliers may offer a few more options of their own. If you have measured everything up and know the dimensions you need but can’t find one in the right size, you could look at having one custom made. Here at Ruby Group we offer a made to measure service for all types of wooden gates, with a quick turnaround.

Know what you are buying

If your budget is tight you may decide to go for the cheapest option you can find. But be warned, poor quality timber which has not been treated correctly will be more prone to early rot and problems. To save yourself hassle down the line, make sure you do your homework and that you purchase from a reputable supplier. All of our timber gates are made from high quality sustainable materials. We work with the Forestry Stewardship Council to carefully select our timber suppliers, and we pressure treat all wooden gates to prevent rot, decay and weathering.

The accessories you will require

Remember that it’s most likely not just the timber gate itself you will need to order. When you have selected a supplier, make sure you ask them for advice on what gate posts, hinges and if applicable, auto latches, you will need. Make sure you explain which way you would like the wooden gate to open, or if you would like it to swing both ways.

How to fit it correctly

If you haven’t hung a wooden gate before, you will need some expert guidance. You could of course hire someone for the job if you don’t think you will be able to complete it yourself, but most suppliers should provide you with a useful guide on how to fit your wooden gate.

We hope this has helped you on your way to purchasing a timber gate for your home or business. For more information on our range of wooden and timber gates, please give us a call on 01409 231763 or send us a message on our live chat.
