Our full range of different types of cladding

Timber cladding is an increasingly popular choice for finishing the outside of commercial and domestic properties as well as sheds, summerhouses, garages and other outbuildings. Otherwise known as timber weatherboarding or timber siding, it is an attractive and economical way to finish the exterior of both old and new buildings. Naturally durable woods such as cedar, larch and redwood provide a hard wearing, protective layer against the elements and they are excellent insulators.

Many traditional British timbers such as oak, elm, sweet chestnut, western red cedar and larch are suitable for exterior timber cladding because of their resistance to decay. However Imported timbers such as Canadian western red cedar and Siberian larch are increasingly being specified for cladding where a more modern, contemporary appearance is desired.

All of our timber cladding is Scandinavian Redwood, which is green pressure treated to ensure a long lasting protective life. We have cladding available in a range of profiles from the more rustic featheredge boards to the clean lines of machined shiplap, loglap and tongue and groove.

Within this section you will find a wealth of information about our cladding board dimensions and profiles in order to help you choose the best one for your project.

Shiplap Cladding

Shiplap Cladding is our most popular timber cladding. It is a planed (smooth finish) softwood cladding board. It is suitable for exterior work such as horizontal boarding of sheds, summerhouses, garages and house walls. It is green pressure treated to ensure it is protected from the weather and will last as long as possible. Ship Lap timber cladding is strong and offers a tight seal, preventing water penetration.

Dimensions: 150mm wide, approx 15mm thick.

Overlap: approx 11mm (this means the boards will cover a total of 139mm each)

Loglap Cladding

Loglap Cladding is similar to shiplap timber, but has a rounded finish which gives more of a log cabin feel. Popular in the UK for sheds, summerhouses and other outbuildings. Log Lap cladding can give your garden shed an innovative, yet rustic appearance. Like shiplap timber it prevents water coming through the boards, and dries quickly after a shower, perfect for UK weather conditions.

Dimensions: 121mm wide, approx 21mm thick.

Overlap: approx 11mm (this means the boards will cover a total of 110mm each)

Tongue and Groove Cladding

Again Tongue and Groove timber cladding boards are similar to Shiplap and Loglap, with a planed finish. T&G cladding has an interlocking system which creates a strong panel which is very durable. This timber cladding is recommended if you intend to store heavy or valuable items as it is harder to break in to.

Dimensions: 121mm wide, approx 14.5mm thick.

Overlap: approx 9mm (this means the boards will cover a total of 112mm each)

Featheredge Boards

Featheredge cladding boards are a cheaper alternative, also used for garden fences and gates. Feather edge doesn't interlock like tongue and groove cladding, instead just overlapping each board. This means it isn't so water or air tight. It is a rough sawn finish so isn't as smooth as planed timber cladding boards. However it can be a good alternative if you are looking to build a lower budget garden shed.

Dimensions: 150mm wide, thickness goes from 15mm at the large end to 7mm at the thin end.

Overlap: approx 25mm (this means the boards will cover a total of 125mm each)
