Product Description
Description

The Exbourne Curved Heel Gate is a traditionally styled single gate featuring a distinctive curved heel design, offering a refined finish for wider entrances. Each gate is handmade in Devon, ensuring a high-quality build with attention to detail.

Built from Scandinavian Redwood, this softwood is known for its clean appearance and natural durability. The timber is pressure treated to protect against rot, decay and insect attack. Over time, its naturally light colour will deepen, and for best long-term care we recommend applying a UV-protective oil.

Before adding the gate to your basket, select the width, height and hanging side. Compatible ironwork and gate posts are available to ensure an accurate installation. If you’re unsure about sizing, our handy measuring guide can help and bespoke sizes are available on request.

            FAQs
            Product
What are farm/field gates used for?

Farm or field gates are typically used to secure agricultural land, paddocks, and livestock enclosures. They provide controlled access while allowing visibility and ventilation.

Is your Exbourne Curved Heel Planed Gate treated?

This gate is pressure-treated with Tanalith E treatment, for enhanced protection against the elements.

What is your Exbourne Curved Heel Planed Gate made from?

Our Exbourne Gate is made from premium, Joinery Grade Scandinavian Redwood.

Do you make bespoke/custom size gates?

Absolutely! You can click on the 'Order Bespoke' button on our listings and enter your dimensions for a price, or you can contact our friendly Sales team on 01409 231763 or sales@ruby-group.co.uk or on our Live Chat!

            Usage
Do you farm gates arrive with fixings and posts?

No, these will need to be purchased with your field gate.

            Can I paint my gate?

You can! You can only use water-based paint on our gates, however, and you will need to ensure the gate is as dry as possible before painting. We do recommend applying UV protection to the gate prior to painting also.

Can I use a field gate on a sloped surface?

Yes, field gates can be installed on sloped ground, but you may need to adjust the gate height or use custom hinges to ensure smooth operation and clearance over uneven terrain.

What is the lifespan of a timber field gate?

With proper maintenance, timber field gates can last 15 to 30+ years or more, depending on the material (softwood or hardwood) and the level of exposure to the elements.

How often do I need to treat my gate?

We strongly recommend treating your garden gate with UV protection at least every 12 months, when the gate is dry. This is to protect your gate against weather related issues such as warping, twists etc. If you are signed up to our email marketing, you will receive a yearly reminder of this!

            Installation
Do I need a throwover loop for double gates?

Yes, throwover loops are recommended for double field gates. They secure both sides of the gate, preventing them from swinging open and ensuring proper alignment when closed.

What hinges and posts do I need for this gate?

If you select the sizes you require, underneath the measurements you will find the suggested hinges and posts for your gate. Simply click 'Add to cart'.
