Home-Grown Cedar Planed Square Edge

Cedar PSE, also known as Cedar Planed Square Edge is a very popular type of cladding that we can offer here at Ruby UK. With different lengths, sizes, and types, we’re sure you’ll find the right timber with us. Currently, we offer two types of cedar which include our Western Red Canadian or our homegrown options; both of which are great species of timber with slightly different characteristics but provide great options for fencing. Canadian Western Red cedar is a much darker, denser wood that is almost clear of any defects such as knots and tight grains. On the other hand, homegrown cedar has a much more open grain and rustic look, adding charm but keeping a contemporary, modern finish. Cedar is one of the most popular woods at the minute. Due to its modern and contemporary style it makes the perfect cladding for all outdoor buildings! Many of our customers have used this for sheds and offices. Planed Square Edge boards are very simple profiles with straight edges all around. They can be installed both vertically or horizontally depending on preference and simple to do so. All edges are planed and smooth ensuring the highest quality of finish keeping joints and finishes neat and tidy.

It is a well-known fact that the UV rays from the sun can cause both home grown and Canadian western red to turn from its beautiful pink, brown and golden colours to a silvery grey finish. We would therefore highly recommend using Osmo Cedar UV protection oil to keep the natural colours within the wood. The highly effective oil will optimally match the pigments of the wood, whilst also regulating moisture levels, minimising swelling, and shrinkage. It reduces algae, mildew and fungal with its water and rot resistant properties and creates a breathable clear finish that doesn’t crack, flake or peel. It is recommended that you apply Osmo stains every 12 weeks with two coats to help keep boards in immaculate condition. It’s important to consider the direction that your cladding is facing as this will help to determine the number of regular maintenance checks and coats of UV Protection oil needed.
