How to Measure Wooden Field Gates

Gate Width

1. Measure the Distance between the posts/pillars

2. To determine what clearance is needed to calculate your gate width, you must decide how you would like your gate hung. Please see below for the options:

Double Field Gate: Hinged from the rear of posts, opening towards property

Only reduction required is 10mm, to allow for the gap between the two gates

Double Field Gate: Hinged from the middle of posts, opening both ways

Reduce width by 250mm.

Example: If your posts are set 3600mm apart, you'll require a gate at 3350mm wide to make the necessary allowances

Single Field Gate: Hinged from the rear of posts, opening towards property

No reduction needed!

Single Field Gate: Hinged from the middle of posts, opening both ways

Reduce width by 130mm.

Example: If your posts are set 3600mm apart, you'll require a gate at 3470mm wide to make the necessary allowances

Hinges

For our Field Gates, you will need our 24" adjustable hinge set. We do also recommend using drop bolts and, depending on you hang the gate, a self locking gate catch.
